Sold piece!

brighidsmasks Posted by brighidsmasks at 07:20 PM on March 30, 2009 Comments comments (0)

I sold a piece at Rave's Oh My Goth up in Denver last month! The piece I sold was "Obsidian Goddess." Of course I would sell such a piece at a goth shop. Heh. I had a lot fun with that piece, albeit the few frustrations. It was worth it in the end and I hope the new owner is happy with it.

I'm also looking to sell my masks through a local occult shop, but seeing as the word 'occult' is Latin for 'hidden knowledge,' I'm not going to reveal anything yet! We'll see how things progress. I would like to get that up-and-running in the next month.

Also, I'm working on an idea for a new project, completely different from the masks. It would be a lot more profitable and I would definately like to market the pieces to the local crafter's guild. Just need to get my desktop back to work and I'll need to buy a printer. Yay! Hints at nothing! smile

Steam Punk Mask Complete!

brighidsmasks Posted by brighidsmasks at 11:06 PM on February 02, 2009 Comments comments (0)
So, I finally completed the steam punk mask. I've been putting it off mostly to work on my novel. In fact, I've been holed away in my house for weeks, coming out only to go to work. The novel has been sucking my social life away, but I'm almost at 300 pages!

ANYway, without further ado, it's time to put this beautiful sculpture on my site. I just love this piece; it's been fun researching steampunk and the history of it. The liquid copper is definately going to be used on more masks in the future, especially if they're more sci-fi like this. The only thing I don't like about this piece is that the clay is pretty well shot. I tried to use more of it the other day and it broke apart in my hands. But, I picked up some craft porcelin, some of which I used on this mask, and it's smooth as butter. I love that stuff and I'm looking forward to making a mask with it!

This mask has peahen feathers (hard to find), looooong turkey feathers (one just over 3 FEET) and all kinds of fun copper wire and miscellaneous steam punk decorations. My favs are the two gold butterflies on one side of the face with curled copper wire coming out of them. I actually sewed them into the mask while the clay was still moist and finished it once it was all painted. If you're looking to do gold, silver or copper rubbing onto sculptures, I definately recommend the liquid stuff. It stinks, but it's really cool to work with. Just make sure you have a decent respirator while working with it. smile

Today, I added many new pieces that I have working on, as well as a picture of a mask I sold that never made it to the site before it was sold. The mask is called "The Barber of Seville" and I was inspired to make it after the Johnny Depp movie Sweeny Todd came out. It was rather difficult to make the piece, but I decided to make a second one, "Art Thou Sorrowful?" to go with, based on the song of the same name. With a little decoupage glue and a book of sheet music, I'll have endless loads of fun! smile

I'm working on my next piece, this time in clay. While I can't give details yet, it's going to be based on an upcoming fetish ball in Colorado Springs. Most of it is complete, but I won't post pictures probably until February. I may, however, post teasers later.

Please be sure to look over the site with my new masks. If you are a FreeWebs website designer, join my friends list and post comments so others may see your art!

New masks

I have made several masks over the past week and have decided to start a series of masks with decopague. At this point, I would like to make the set a surprise, though. I'll have them at the next show, along with my masks that were at the gallery.

I am also working on a mask for myself for the show. It doesn't exactly match with the theme, but who cares? Heh. It will be really cool. I'll probably work on just one more piece for sale, finish up the others, and mostly focus on the mask for myself. It's just too cool to NOT make!

See ya at the show!

I don't know if I need to be painted gold, but it sounds fun eh?

Heh. Well, I am working on a bunch of inexpensive masks to show this Friday as next month is Halloween. I have one horror mask (clay) and a I'm working on a high number of plastic and fabric/plastic masks. If you don't have body paint, Doug and Leaf can paint you up for the festivities! Hope to see you there!

AND, I got up pictures from First Friday, so check em out on the Art Show Pictures page! Plus, the horror mask I finished will be posted later today on Masks For Sale.

Also, I've re-activated the Breast Cancer Awareness page since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Be sure to check out the groups that do not test on animals!

Art Show on 9/5: Assemblage

I finally landed a spot in a gallery in downtown Colorado Springs! I'm pretty excited about it and the masks will be hung on the walls by next week.

SO, there will be a bit of a show on First Friday, which is September 5th. Mark your calendars; this gallery is not to be missed! The place is Edifice Gallery on Tejon and Bijou, next to Left Side Spin (and also next to the old location of The Cat Bird Seat, reputed to be haunted). Edifice has a lot of modern art, pop art paintings, sculptures (even blank ones you can paint yourself), bumperstickers, hand-made jewelry, shirts, hoodies and more. And my masks. big grin

If you can't make the show, be sure to stop in before October to see my masks on display. And frankly, stop in regardless; there's a lot of amazing stuff in store!

Gallery location:
Edifice Gallery
325 N. Tejon St.
Colorado Springs, CO  80903

Hope to see some of you there!

The show went really well and I had a lot of fun. I did end up selling 'Aunt Bonita,' which was really cool. I had expected that one to go a long time ago, but I guess I just needed to find the right person to buy it! smile My dad and I made a new display which is much, much more sturdy, but it needs a little more tweaking. I'll edit this entry in the next couple of days with some more details on the show and I will post pics in the Art Show album. But for now, I'm still recovering. Just another night of rest and I should be good to go. Thanks to everyone that went to the show! smile

It's just around the corner now! If you are a local, be sure to come up for the fun. It's only $10 bucks to get in! smile

I should have another mask done by then as well. This one is a clay piece, something I haven't done since January, and I am also going to airbrush the highlights. Should turn out pretty cool. Look close for my name on there!!!

See ya then!
